Top 10 OSHA Violations for 2009
November 6th, 2009
OSHA has released its top violations for 2009. The number of violations increased 30 percent over 2008 in these 10 categories. This is a result of OSHA’s new commitment to step up inspections and issue more citations. With the increase in the number of Compliance Safety and Health Officers and the new administration larger focus on enforcing the standards I expect this number to continue to increase.
Top Ten Violations for 2009
Scaffolding – 9,093 violations
Fall Protection – 6,771 violations
Hazard Communication – 6,378 violations
Respiratory Protection – 3,803 violations (I expect this to move up the list in 2010 due to OSHA’s emphasis on Silica Exposure in Construction)
Lockout/Tag Out – 3,321 violations
Electrical (Wiring) – 3,079 violations
Ladders – 3,072 violations
Powered Industrial Trucks – 2,993 violations (This includes construction as well)
Electrical – 2.553 violations
Machine Guarding - 2,364
