Springfield police officers and Greene County deputies who responded to what at first sounded like a gunshot incident this morning discovered a man who suffered a chest wound when he was shot by a nail gun at a construction site.
The unidentified man was conscious, but complained of breathing problems before he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, Greene County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Christian Conrad said.
Dispatched to a convenience store near the Mo. 13-Interstate 44 interchange around 9:30 a.m., officers learned the man had been taken by private vehicle from a construction site at Farm Road 44 and Mo. 13 north of the city.
The man was injured while helping install roof trusses, and the incident is being considered an accident, Conrad said.
